Prediction Competition! Wrap-Up Article

The day is finally here, at the end of this article is the name of our new prediction champion from season 4!

Let’s get this show on the road with the results from round 15 (the second last week!)

3: Linkinparkfan (Highest scorer this week: bonus point!)

2: Markyjuju, Footmad,

1: Marci-fcm, Manurules, Nev, Desmondnew, Keston, Lol18

A pretty horrible week I am sure you’ll agree, even after being exceptionally kind with the scoring I struggled to give more than one point out per person.

The big question: The answer I was hunting for was 9, nobody produced it so the bonus point goes to our closest guess which was 10 from Marci-fcm!

This all meant that going into the final week our table looked like this:

– 1) Keston 60

– 2) Markyjuju 54

↑ 3) Linkinparkfan 52

↓ 4) Marci-fcm 50

– 5) Lol 47

– = Manurules 47

↑ 7) Footmad 40

↓ 8 ) Desmondnew 39

– 9) Nev 32

– 10) Freaky_styley 22

– 11) Bock 20

– 12) Revengers 11

– 13) Coilz 9

– = S0meb0dy 9

– 15) Kez…..hayday 6

– 16) Pelota 3

– 17) Karunmalik 2

– = Crabianho 2

Linkinparkfan may have hit form at exactly the right time claiming 3rd place for his own, while Markyjuju closes the gap very slightly to 6 points behind Keston. For those outside the top 8, these are your final standings, congratulations! However, all our top 8 users predicted in the final week, so your final standings can be found a little bit lower down.

Before the final weeks results, let’s recap the season…

Round 1: Dannyta/Manurules charges into an early lead keeping the top spot for the first three rounds.

Round 4: Trinidad and Tobago take command with Keston3 and Lol18 in the top 2.

Round 6: The choice between 2 sets of predictions sees the welshman, Markyjuju, take first place from Keston and Lol18.

Round 9: Marci-fcm occupies first place after claiming 9 out of 10 points in one round.

Round 12: Keston and Markyjuju break away from the rest as a 5 point gap opens between 2nd and 3rd.

Round 13: As well as the gap between 2nd and 3rd, there is now a 9 point gap between 6th and 7th.

Round 15: Keston leads by 6 points, can he hold on and take the title?

Here we are then, wait no longer, for I can finally announce the results of the final week.

As you know, I gave you the choice of two sets of predictions along with double points for everyone!

And what a week they produced…

Set 1:

Monchengladbach 1-0 Mainz

Sevilla 2-6 Real Madrid

Man. City 1-0 Arsenal

Lazio 2-2 Udinese

Set 2:

Napoli 1-3 Roma

Everton 1-1 Norwich

FC Schalke 5-0 Werder Bremen

Valencia 2-0 Malaga

Did you pick the correct set? The colour of each name indicates which set they picked and as promised, all your scores for this final week are doubled!

(2×4=) 8: Marci-fcm, Markyjuju, Keston3 (A double bonus point for these 3 users!)

(2×3=) 6: Desmondnew2, Lol18

(2×2=) 4: Footmad3, Manurules, Linkinparkfan3

I think you know what that means, to me it looked like set 1 was slightly easier to predict. Here are the final standings for our top 8 players this season!

– 1) Keston3 70

– 2) Markyjuju 64

↑ 3) Marci-fcm 60

↓ 4) Linkinparkfan3 56

↑ 5) Lol18 53

↓ 6) Manurules 51

↑ 7) Desmondnew2 45

↓ 8 ) Footmad3 44

So, time for one of my favourite parts of the season, the annual awards ceremony, this time with a few extra awards than usual!

We begin then with the award for the best country (counting the top 2 players from each country)

In 3rd place with 96 points thanks to Markyjuju and Nev72 is Wales,

In 2nd place (just!) with 100 points exactly thanks to Linkinparkfan3 and footmad3 is England,

In 1st place though, with a massive 123 points thanks to Keston3 and Lol18 is Trinidad and Tobago!

The award for the most bonus points this season fittingly goes to our top 2, Keston and Markyjuju who earned 10 bonus points each throughout the season! Marci-fcm finished with 9, Manurules with 6 and Nev, Freaky_styley, Lol18 and Linkinparkfan3 all finish with 5 each.

Now, the award for the highest weekly scores this season! (excluding bonus points)

In 3rd place, we have Keston3 who secured the top spot with 6 points in round 14,

In 2nd place, we have Manurules, who got the show on the road hitting 6 in round 1 and again in round 11,

In 1st place for this award, the clear winner is Marci-fcm, the only player to score 7 points all season did so not only in round 6 but he scored 7 points for a second time in round 9!

Our next award goes to an unlikely winner who I am sure will agree with me that he deserves it, although I have no idea how he managed this. Karunmalik wins the award for the most sets of predictions from the wrong week sent to me. Thanks for playing anyway!

Next up, the award for the poorest defence of the title this season goes to Footmad3, there must be a curse on winning this competition, so far we’ve had nobody get anywhere near successfully defending their title.

The award for the most entertaining emails entries simply must go to Linkinparkfan3, you can see the subjects of them there on the right and trust me, that is only the start. Thanks to linkinparkfan and everyone who has written me an entertaining email over the last few months and apologies I rarely reply although be assured that I do read them!

So congratulations to Footmad3, just one of three users who can call themselves a former prediction champion and who finished in a very respectable 8th place this time with 44 points.

Battling all the way and finishing just a single point ahead of our former champion is Desmondnew2, congratulations!

I also congratulate Manurules, just scrambling over the 50 point mark on this final week and just a couple of points off our top 5.

On 53 points, I am very pleased to announce that Lol18 has finished in 5th place for the second season running, meaning he can keep this amazing trophy he won for 5th place last time!

Also with a place in the top 5 with 56 points is Linkinparkfan3 who finishes in 4th place as our top Englishman.

This also means that we’ve avoided a 3rd dead-heat in a row for 3rd place!

The hottest newcomer to the prediction competition this time is Marci-fcm, the only user to hit a score of 7, including taking 9 out of 10 points, a strong finish sees him hit a massive 60 points to land him in an excellent 3rd place.

Just 4 points ahead is Markyjuju! He’s the first ever user to finish in the top 3 two seasons in a row! Joint 3rd last time, 2nd place this time, will he go one better next time? Congratulations!

Now we have just one final award to give out and it is the biggest of them all. He finished with 6 points between him and the rest in the end, scoring consistently throughout the season to take the title home to T&T. Rarely slipping up at all throughout the season, 70 points confirms him as our new prediction champion from season #4, it is the one and only Keston3!

I’d like to thank everyone who has taken part in season #4, as well as Anionic for allowing me to hold the prediction competition here.

Finally, I have some news, that on the 30th of January 2012, we will be back for a 5th season of prediction competition!

It’ll run up until the end of the football season leagues, which is around the beginning of May.

Until then, I hope you all have a very merry christmas and a very happy new year, thanks for playing, see you in 2012!

You can congratulate Keston3 in the achievements forum, the thread can be found here: /index.php?p=forum&sub=topic&forum_id=87&topic_id=282806 and feel free to comment on the prediction competition thread in the PSE forum too.

Thanks for predicting all that,

Prediction Competition! Round 15-16

Have your dramatic music at the ready, we’ve reached the final week of the prediction competition!

Here are the results to the matches I set last week:

Malaga 1-1 Osasuna

Levante 1-0 Sevilla

Real Betis 2-1 Valencia

Real Madrid 1-3 Barcelona

The big question: There were 9 goals scored by the home teams on Sunday.

You may have noticed that your scores for this week are missing. They shall be revealed in the final article next week, just to build up that tension and excitement a bit more!

So, as the scores aren’t revealed, we’ll skip the table and go straight to the predictions for the finale, round #16.

You may remember round #6, where you had the choice between two sets of matches. If not, here is how it works for this final week:

Yes, this week you have 2 sets of predictions to pick from!

Each set has one match from each of our 4 leagues, English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A.

You can only choose one set, so pick carefully and the correct choice could lead to a lot of points next week.

Any entries received containing both sets of predictions will only receive points the lowest scoring set. Predictions merging half of each set will receive no points at all, so don’t do it!

There will be no big question this week, but all points scored in this last round will count for double, meaning there are 16 points up for grabs.

Here are the matches, remember, pick 1 set!

Set 1:

Predict the winner or a draw

Monchengladbach v Mainz

Sevilla v Real Madrid

Predict the exact score

Man. City v Arsenal

Lazio v Udinese

Set 2:

Predict the winner or a draw

Napoli v Roma

Everton v Norwich

Predict the exact score

FC Schalke v Werder Bremen

Valencia v Malaga

Please send your predictions to predictioncompetition@gmail.com BEFORE the first game starts on SATURDAY. If this is your first time playing, please include your username in the email. You should receive confirmation that you have entered successfully once you have sent your predictions.

I will publish the results round 15 and 16 as well as a few other items, on Tuesday 20th December, when we shall crown a new prediction champion!

For the final time this season, good luck!

Thanks for reading all that,

Prediction Competition! Round 14-15

Can you believe it? The second last week in season #4 is upon us! Here is what happened in round 14.

Schalke 3-1 Augsburg

Wolfsburg 2-2 Mainz

Bayern Munich 4-1 Werder Bremen

Monchengladbach 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

This is the first time in 7 rounds everybody has scored at least 2 points!

6: Keston (wins his 3rd bonus point in a row!)

5: Footmad

4: Linkinparkfan

3: Desmondnew, Lol18, Markyjuju, Nev

2: Manurules, Marci-fcm

1: none

The big question: There were 3 yellow cards in Freiburg 1-1 Hannover, lots of you guessed either 2 or 4 but the bonus point goes to Desmondnew, the only person to say exactly 3!

Here is the table with 2 more rounds to go…

– 1) Keston 59

– 2) Markyjuju 52

↑ 3) Linkinparkfan 48

↓ = Marci-fcm 48

↑ 5) Lol 46

↓ = Manurules 46

↑ 7) Footmad 38

↓ = Desmondnew 38

– 9) Nev 31

– 10) Freaky_styley 22

– 11) Bock 20

– 12) Revengers 11

– 13) Coilz 9

– = S0meb0dy 9

– 15) Kez…..hayday 6

– 16) Pelota 3

– 17) Karunmalik 2

– = Crabianho 2

Everywhere you look it is tight, 3rd level with 4th, 5th level with 6th and 7th level with 8th (in a good week for both Footmad and Desmondnew). In fact, the only battle that doesn’t look close is 1st v 2nd as Keston slams another 7 points onto the table. He has one hand on the trophy and looking back, history favours him to win because it has always been won by a clear 10 points or so and arguably the more important statistic of having a 3 on the end of your name (ignoring season #1) – or is that the other way around? Anyway, it’s going to take a huge effort from someone outside the top 2 to catch him now, it’s even going to take a huge effort from Markyjuju, 7 points adrift now in 2nd.

How will the game change as we head to Spain for El Clasico in La Liga?

Predict the winner or a draw

Malaga v Osasuna

Levante v Sevilla

The Big Question: How many goals will be scored by the teams playing at home on Sunday?

Predict the exact score

Real Betis v Valencia

Real Madrid v Barcelona

Please send your predictions to predictioncompetition@gmail.com BEFORE the first game starts on SATURDAY. If this is your first time playing, please include your username in the email. You should receive confirmation that you have entered successfully once you have sent your predictions.

Good luck!

Prediction Competition! Round 13-14

A new week, a new round; here are the results.

Atalanta 1-1 Napoli

Cagliari 1-1 Bologna

Udinese 2-0 Roma

Lazio 0-1 Juventus

So how did you do?

3: Keston, Linkinparkfan, Marci-fcm (a 3-way tie, one bonus point each!)

2: Dannyta, Lol18, Markyjuju

1: Desmondnew, Footmad

No score: Nev (sorry that you missed the earlier than normal deadline by a few hours so no points – i’m planning to change this rule slightly for next season)

The big question: There are now 12 teams on 15 points or more in Serie A so for the third week in a row, Footmad wins this bonus point!

Here is that all-important table!

– 1) Keston 52

– 2) Markyjuju 49

↑ 3) Marci-fcm 46

↑ 4) Linkinparkfan 44

↓ = Dannyta/Manurules 44 (will play under the name of Manurules from now on)

↓ 6) Lol 43

– 7) Desmondnew 34

– 8 ) Footmad 33

– 9) Nev 28

– 10) Freaky_styley 22

– 11) Bock 20

– 12) Revengers 11

– 13) Coilz 9

– = S0meb0dy 9

– 15) Kez…..hayday 6

– 16) Pelota 3

– 17) Karunmalik 2

– = Crabianho 2

Keston extends his slim lead to 3 points at the top of the table after sharing the high-scorers bonus point with Marci-fcm and Linkinparkfan, who move up into 3rd and 4th respectively. Further down, there is no movement but Footmad closes the gap on Desmondnew to just a single point. With the season finishing in a few weeks time, to allow for a winter break and then for season 5 to take up the second part of the 2011-12 season, there is little time left to get many more points on the board in our closest title race yet!

Let’s see how many points you can pick up in Germany where I have 1st v 2nd and 3rd v 4th!

Predict the winner or a draw

Schalke v Augsburg

Wolfsburg v Mainz

The Big Question: How many cards (yellow or red) will be shown when Hannover visit Freiburg?

Predict the exact score

Bayern Munich v Werder Bremen

Monchengladbach v Borussia Dortmund

Please send your predictions to predictioncompetition@gmail.com BEFORE the first game starts on SATURDAY. If this is your first time playing, please include your username in the email. You should receive confirmation that you have entered successfully once you have sent your predictions.

Good luck!

Prediction Competition! Round 12-13

We entered new territory this week, yes, the prediction competition email address received its first bit of spam! ok haha, here’s the round 12 results:

Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool

Stoke 2-3 Queens Park Rangers

Wigan 3-3 Blackburn

Man.City 3-1 Newcastle

A few hard matches but did you see those results coming? Let’s see if you did…

4: Keston, Dannyta (1 bonus point each for joint top scorer!)

3: Linkinparkfan, Markjuju

2: Nev

1: Lol18, Desmondnew, Footmad

The big question: Aguero scored 1, Van Persie grabbed 2, so we were looking for an answer of 3 and it was Footmad who gave me that answer – bonus point for him!

After 12 rounds, here is the table:

↑ 1) Keston 48

↓ 2) Markyjuju 47

↑ 3) Dannyta 42

↓ = Marci-fcm 42

↓ 5) Lol 41

– 6) Linkinparkfan 40

– 7) Desmondnew 33

– 8 ) Footmad 31

– 9) Nev 28

– 10) Freaky_styley 22

– 11) Bock 20

– 12) Revengers 11

– 13) Coilz 9

– = S0meb0dy 9

– 15) Kez…..hayday 6

– 16) Pelota 3

– 17) Karunmalik 2

– = Crabianho 2

Keston and Markyjuju have opened a 5 point gap at the top, is it a 2 horse race from here? Dannyta jumps up into joint 3rd, in a week where to my annoyance, everyone predicted a loss for my team (Newcastle) and also to my annoyance they were proved correct to do so. The first 3 matches produced very few points for anyone.

Anyone up for a trip to Italy in Serie A? I don’t know why I ask, of course you are!

Predict the winner or a draw

Atalanta v Napoli

Cagliari v Bologna

The Big Question: There are currently 10 teams on 15 points or more in Serie A, how many will be on 15 points or more after the weekend games?

Predict the exact score

Udinese v Roma

Lazio v Juventus

Please send your predictions to predictioncompetition@gmail.com BEFORE the first game starts on FRIDAY (sorry it’s a day earlier this week). If this is your first time playing, please include your username in the email. You should receive confirmation that you have entered successfully once you have sent your predictions.

Good luck!

Thanks for reading all that,
